The Simple Solution To Link Building That Noone Wants To Tell You
I regularly get emails telling me how much more traffic I could get if only I would invest in their company and let them do link-building for me. If there were a way I could specifically block them I would.
You see, link-building is a phenomenal waste of money.
Don’t misunderstand me if you want to have any kind of ranking you have to have links coming back to your site but Google has made it clear from the beginning that they want natural links. That’s why we have had so many slaps and updates that have literally killed businesses.
When I first started online I jumped into selling physical goods using drop shipping. It seemed like a good move and I was assured that the company I went with to do the link-building would make me a fortune.
After about 12 months we were doing ok but nothing like what we were promised.
I bought a software package that was wonderful. I helped my SEO and products finally started to move.
Link Building and Google Slaps
Then came the first of the Google slaps. I went from #1 running to, well… I never actually found out where we were ranked; it was so far off the scale.
So I set about more SEO and link building. Then you guessed it, another Google slap. We actually ended up in some very serious financial difficulty as a result and it just continued. Others we were in contact with all had similar problems.
It’s not as if this stopped after the second slap. This continues for quite some time. Every time we would make progress there would be another slap (update).
I was using anything black hat. It was all very white hat and as far as we could keep up, according to the rules. One person I was in contact with, that started online at the same time as me, went from $10,000 per month to having to go back to work in order to make ends meet.
I persisted but I continued to do more research to see if I could find a way to satisfy Google in such a way as to stop the slaps from affecting us., Otherwise, we were going to have to give up.
After spending thousands of dollars on various software and link-building schemes. I decided that it was time to quit.
Never Get Hit By A Slap Again
But as it sometimes happens I came across one mob that promised if you used their method you would never get hit by a slap again.
Unlike other people, they had the integrity to explain clearly what their method was before I spent 1 cent with them. There were nuances of course and I had to pay for them. But again unlike other mobs, their price was very reasonable and they were teaching me how to do it, not getting me to pay for their secret sauce.
I decided for one last hoorah and invested.
What amazed me is that although there is no question that what they taught me enhanced the original idea significantly, if I just did what they told me for free I still improved my SEO and made more money than I ever had.
Doing this one simple thing improved my SEO and gained me links and I wasn’t even trying for linkbacks. It was just happening naturally. The absurdity of it was that all I was doing was following Google’s foundational premise.
You see everybody is trying to tell you that there is some big secret that Google is not telling you. When the truth of the matter is, despite them being Google and therefore everybody is suspicious of them, in this one thing they have never changed. They just want you to do this one thing and they will leave you to get on with it. It’s the same thing it always has been. It has never changed.
Do This One Thing
Do you want to know what that one thing is?
It is simply a case of adding more quality content to your website and then promoting that content.
Sure there are other tweaks like the ads themselves. No one can argue that ads help your bottom line. But I have even had my FB account temporarily disabled and still managed to get targeted, qualified, traffic. On top of that, the traffic I do pay for is affordable.
That’s the kicker, isn’t it? The solution to Google has never been a secret. The solution is to do what Google openly wanted us to do in the first place. The more content you add the bigger your site. The bigger your site the more natural links it builds. The more natural links that are built the better your SEO and the more qualified, targeted traffic you get.
I now have a totally different attitude to SEO. Adding more quality content is the basis of content marketing. The only money that is worth spending is on content marketing.
