There are plenty of people out there still spruiking this stuff. I know they are as I get unsolicited emails every day trying to convince me that one of these ways is the best way to get traffic and I should get involved. Worse, I have customers that have tried them.
The reason that this stuff is still out there, is that it does seem to work if you have never done it before. The problem is that it is only a short-term gain. The long-term result is that you usually end up going backward after the initial boost. Worse, sometimes it can have very serious negative results.
Yet these are all things that I have had customers try in an often desperate attempt to improve their ranking and get more traffic. Seriously, if you are doing these things you have to stop doing them.
Even if they were to have a positive effect on your traffic initially and they don’t in the long term, they are massively time-consuming and if not time-consuming because you pay someone, they are massively expensive to little or no effect and often have negative effects. Thus they are just not cost-effective.
Content marketing is by far the best possible bang for your buck. But even then you have to do it right or you are just wasting your time and money.
