In today’s digital age, businesses have a plethora of options when it comes to adverts for promoting their products and services online. Here are some of the advertising options for you to consider. At the end, I will outline how to pay for them when you are trying to make money online for free.
Please keep in mind that, particularly if you have a limited budget, you need to keep an eye on how much you are spending and stop the ads as soon as you reach your limit. Frankly, this is good advice even if you do not have a restrictive budget.
Social Media Advertising
Social platforms offer paid adverts, allowing businesses to target audiences based on demographics, interests, and behaviours. These are the adverts that you are most likely to want to start with.
My advice would be, before you start to read up on the different social media platforms. Start with the one you think is the most relevant. Learn it thoroughly and move on to a different social media platform once you have a solid grasp of your current one if it is relevant.
Influencer Marketing
Collaborating with influencers allows brands to leverage their reach and credibility for product endorsements. There are influences on most social media but you will have to make it worth their while.
Remarketing/Retargeting
Ads follow users who have previously visited a website, reminding them of the products they viewed. This will usually require some software. Which you will have to pay for.
Sponsored Content
Brands pay for content on external websites, subtly promoting their products or services within the content. This is one of the best versions of advertising you can have because it costs you nothing and the advertisers pay you. However, you will have to have plenty of relevant content for advertisers to be interested in putting ads on your site.
Mobile Advertising
With the proliferation of smartphones, mobile ads target users on their devices, optimizing for smaller screens. Most of the people looking for products these days are on a mobile device. This is just a matter of activating the correct settings when you post your own ads. So don’t forget these settings.
Geo-Targeting
Ads are displayed to users based on their geographic location, ensuring relevance to local audiences. This is great for things like local businesses and clubs etc. Again this is only a matter of turning on the correct settings when you post your ad.
Podcast Advertising
Brands can sponsor or advertise on podcasts, reaching niche audiences through audio content. This is generally relatively expensive. However if your brand, product or content gets popular enough you can sometimes get invited onto a podcast to comment on a particular subject.
In conclusion, the world of online paid advertising is diverse and ever-evolving. Businesses must choose the right mix of strategies to achieve their marketing goals, considering their target audience, budget, and campaign objectives. Adapting to emerging trends and technologies is essential in this dynamic digital landscape.
Search Engine Advertising
One of the most popular forms is search engine adverts, where businesses bid on keywords to appear at the top of search results. The more popular versions of these ads are Google Ads and Bing Ads (be aware that these form of ads often change their name but it usually is not hard to work out what they are called as there is always some reference to the old name floating around the internet).
The most popular of these types of ads are:
- Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
Advertisers pay a fee each time a user clicks on their ad, making it cost-effective and performance-driven.
- Cost-Per-Impression (CPM)
Advertisers pay for every thousand ad impressions, ideal for brand exposure campaigns.
Google has good courses on how to do these ads. You do not need to spend money on learning how to do them. However, if you are beginning, learn about longtail keywords and phrases. If you do this properly you are much more likely to generate an income than with the most popular keywords and phrases.
Amazon, eBay and Gumtree Have Paid Advertising
Also keep in mind that you can pay for advertising on Amazon, eBay and Gumtree for any products that you have on those platforms.
Raising Money for Advertising
As always the best way to raise money for advertising if you are not making any from the sale of your product is to sell something on Gumtree or eBay or through Surveys (See my next post: Surveys To Pay For Adverts: Make Money For Free Online Part 10)
The big thing about both those platforms, however, is that income from them may be inconsistent. Depending on how many products you have or how popular your product is. I found that when I needed to raise money for advertising the most consistent method was to do paid surveys. That will be the topic for my next post.
